According to a report from SPORT, Real Madrid’s concerns about Dani Ceballos and his absence from the Spanish national team have now resurfaced.
The midfielder was left out of Spain’s squad by coach Luis de la Fuente following an incident involving Barcelona’s Gavi in 2023.
The clash occurred when Gavi made a tackle without the ball in midfield, which sparked tensions.
This situation did not sit well with the coach, who reportedly consulted with the team’s captains—some of whom play for Barcelona—before making his decision.
Ceballos’ exclusion from the national team was significant, as it saw him miss the Nations League last summer.
He has also been overlooked for subsequent call-ups, despite making noticeable progress at Real Madrid under Carlo Ancelotti.
Fans have expressed their frustration, especially since De la Fuente has continued to call up Gavi even during periods when injuries limited his appearances for Barcelona.
The same consideration has not been extended to Ceballos or other Real Madrid players.
The coach’s selection decisions have raised eyebrows among Madrid supporters. Players like Raul Asensio and Fran Garcia, despite showing promise, have been overlooked for national duty.
This contrasts sharply with Barcelona players who seem to get immediate recognition when they perform well.
Real Madrid fans remain sceptical of De la Fuente, despite his positive results with the national team.
They feel disconnected from his approach, particularly after the Brahim Diaz situation. Brahim eventually chose to represent Morocco after being repeatedly overlooked by the coach.
With Carvajal currently injured, Real Madrid does not have any representatives in the Spanish national team.
Players like Lucas Vazquez, Garcia, and even Asensio are not considered, reinforcing the belief among fans that De la Fuente holds an anti-Madrid bias.
