As far as this season is concerned, Real Madrid fans can have little complaints.
They are on the verge of securing a tidy treble, providing they win the UEFA Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund. New signings have settled into the side excellently, with Jude Bellingham proving to be a Ballon d'Or contender this year.
However, there is one growing frustration which a lot of the Real Madrid fanbase are beginning to share. The frustration involves Nacho Fernandez, who has looked off the mark this season.
Look, nobody will dispute the legendary status which Nacho has at Real Madrid. After all, he is the captain of the club for a reason so if Carlo Ancelotti and Florentino Perez see something in him, then he must be an invaluable figure behind the scenes.
However, it mustn't be understated that his performances have been underwhelming this season, perhaps demonstrating that he isn't the spring chicken he once was.
Of course, Nacho Fernandez runs out of contract at the end of this season, so time is ticking should Los Blancos wish to keep ahold of the veteran.
Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on his contract situation. Posting to X (formerly Twitter), the transfer expert claimed that Nacho is "expected to leave" Real Madrid upon his contract expiry. It is likely, then, that Nacho will join another club for free.
Nacho has started 30 matches across all competitions this season. Heading into the campaign, the Spanish defender would not have expected even half of that tally, so it has been a welcomed boost for him. However, as stated, the increase in minutes has only exposed his frailties in defence.
Real Madrid have not been without their injury concerns this season. David Alaba has been missing from action for a large chunk of the season but with him and Eder Militao competing in the starting lineup again next season, this renders the club legend Nacho as surplus to requirements.
