Real Madrid have already seen Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz leave as free agents.
The club were already lacking in depth and that has hurt their options even further. They simply cannot afford to see more of their players leave in the summer. And thankfully, there is some positive news regarding that.
Another player whose current deal runs out this summer is Dani Ceballos. But it looks like the Spaniard is ready to commit his future to Real Madrid.
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Ceballos will sign a new deal in the next few days. It’s all done since last week and a new contract has been agreed. He will stay and extend at Real Madrid until June 2027.
Ceballos proved to be an important part of Real Madrid’s midfield plans last season, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos starting to need more rest. As a result, the Spaniard staying on at the club will certainly be a positive for them.
Ceballos was expected to leave Real Madrid by most fans not too long ago. He did prove his quality last season though. And while he might not be a starter for the club, he certainly is good enough to have a role off the bench and has proven that he can make a difference after coming on as a substitute.
Of course, the arrival of Jude Bellingham is expected to see Ceballos further down the pecking order. It remains to be seen how much playing time he will actually get next season.
If things don’t work out, Real Madrid can at least get a transfer fee out of Ceballos’ exit in the future. With his contract running out, he would have left as a free agent this summer.
