Real Madrid veteran set for summer departure as Florentino Perez makes decision

Lucas Vazquez’s journey at Real Madrid seems to be approaching its conclusion, with reports from Fichajes suggesting that club president Florentino Perez has already decided not to renew his contract beyond this season.

Despite being one of the club’s longest-serving players and having considerable influence in the dressing room, his future appears increasingly uncertain.

At 33 years old, Vazquez’s contract is set to expire in June. What makes his situation even more telling is the absence of any active negotiations for a renewal.

This lack of dialogue about a new deal strongly hints that Real Madrid are ready to move on without him.

Vazquez’s performances this season have been inconsistent, and even the extended break during the international fixtures didn’t provide him with the form required to impress Carlo Ancelotti.

In a recent match against Leganes, Real Madrid edged out a 3-2 victory, but his display was far from convincing.

Ancelotti’s decision to substitute him and bring on Federico Valverde as a makeshift right-back was a clear message that Vazquez is no longer considered essential.

What further complicates Vazquez’s future at Real Madrid is the expected arrival of Trent Alexander-Arnold. The English right-back is anticipated to join the club as part of a major overhaul in the defensive line.

With his arrival, the likelihood of Vazquez retaining his position diminishes even more.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard has already hinted that he is exploring various possibilities regarding his future. From continuing his career in another league to considering retirement, all options seem to be on the table.

Several clubs have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring his services, including teams from Saudi Arabia, the MLS, and Spanish sides like Mallorca and Espanyol.

Whether he chooses to pursue one final challenge abroad, join another La Liga side, or retire from the sport altogether, one thing is certain—his contributions to Real Madrid over the years will be remembered fondly.
