Florian Wirtz is on the transfer wishlist of several top clubs across Europe for the summer of 2025, with Real Madrid also among his suitors.
Indeed, Los Blancos have been long-time admirers of the Bayer Leverkusen sensation and have identified him as one of the key reinforcements for the summer of 2025.
However, with clubs like Manchester City and Bayern Munich also in the hunt, the transfer might not prove as straightforward.
Despite that, SportBILD reports that Real Madrid remain the favourites to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
The report states that the Bundesliga champions are expecting their prized asset to go for a mammoth transfer fee of €150 million next year – a sum not many clubs can afford.
As such, it is only Real Madrid, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich who are said to be in the running at this point, with Los Blancos being tipped as the favourites.
One aspect that might tip the scales in Real Madrid’s favour is their interest in hiring Xabi Alonso, the current Bayer Leverkusen manager, to replace Carlo Ancelotti.
Indeed, the former midfielder has been identified as the successor to the Italian mastermind at the Santiago Bernabeu. And if he were to arrive, the likelihood of Wirtz following him to the club would also increase.
If Real Madrid do manage to close the deal and sign Wirtz for the aforementioned fee, he would become the club’s most expensive signing of all time.
Having played an integral role in Leverkusen’s domestic double triumph last season, Wirtz has started the new campaign on a positive note, scoring three and assisting one goal in five games.
There is still a long way to go until the next summer transfer window arrives but for now Real Madrid are seen as the favourites to sign him.
